Thanks alot<3

For me, the surgery was very scary. The thought of it made me really nervous. I know a lot of other people who were nervous too. But we’ve all had the surgery and made it through and are doing fine today.

To prepare for the surgery, I tried to remain as positive as possible. I also knew that I had a lot of people thinking about me and supporting me. Having that support group really helped me stay positive.

It’s been 5 and a half years and I don’t regret having the surgery at all. Yes I have some back pain and some restrictions on what I can and can’t do, but it changed my life for the better. I’m a much stronger person.

If you have any other questions, please ask them! :)

I hated it and here in florida its SO humid so u can imagine how hot it got. I never got used to wearing it in the day and stopped after about 9 months but could never sleep without my brace. It helped ease so much pain at night, until the curve got so bad it wasnt helping anymore. Definitely try adjusting to it. At first its weird, but it helps in the long run :) hope this helped

thank you! here you go anon :)
I feel weird asking this. So I have scoliosis. We had a screening in my school and my nurse said i should see the doctor. So I went. The doctor said I have really minor scoliosis, like 8-9 degrees. But my back hurts all the time :/ And its weird and cracky and my mom said one side is higher. I know mine isn't very bad and it makes me feel bad because I don't feel like I have scoliosis :( Most of the scoliosis "problems" relate to me so much but I feel guilty and like I don't have it :((

It doesn’t matter if your scoliosis is 10 degree or 80 degrees.. if you can relate to the scoliosis problems, then you relate to them. You’re very fortunate that your curve is such a low degree, and I hope it continues to stay that small. I’m sorry that you have back pain; I know how much it sucks. You could always ask your doctor is there is any physical therapy you could to do help with pain and to keep the curve from progressing. Please don’t feel guilty about anything! If you every have any questions, please please please ask here or you can send me a message on my main blog (<-linked) and i will respond privately.

My scoliosis doesn't hurt, (thank god) but my brace hurts my back so bad. I don't want to wear it at all but I'm so afraid of surgery. Any advice??

I never had to wear a brace until after my surgery so I might not be as helpful as someone who has worn a brace.

However, if you’re afraid of surgery, wearing your brace is probably the best idea. There’s no guarantee that the brace will stop the curve from progressing, but it will do what it can. You could also talk to your doctor about alternatives such as physical therapy and see if that could help at all. Again, I never had to do physical therapy for my back so I’m not sure how effective that can be.

If anyone that has worn a brace before has any advice, please let me know and I will post it for this anon. Thank you and I hope I helped a little.

I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 5. I never had to wear a brace. Im now 14. in November I went to the doctor and he was concerned about it so he wanted to see me in 8 weeks. January 2nd was when I went in and (not surprisingly) I needed a brace. I got the brace the 29th and I have had it for about a month. I haven't been in since I got it but hopefully it's getting better. :) For anyone that has scoliosis, keep your head up, your beautiful. <3

It's been about a year and a half since my spinal fusion, and over the summer, I picked up longboarding. It's something that makes me feel genuinely happy. When I asked my doctor if I could continue, he said no. It's so upsetting that I can't do the things I want to anymore. I feel so horribly restricted. Are there any words of wisdom or advice you can give to help me get over this? I know it's a small issue, but I've been really sad about it lately.

Don’t allow your back to stop you from doing what you want to do. Long boarding shouldn’t have an effect on your back, as long as you’re not doing dangerous tricks and sticking to basic ones.
Take a look at Steve Caballero (or Stevie Cab) on youtube. He has scoliosis too, and it doesn’t stop him from being a pro skateboarder. Bare in mind, if you do stick to it, it will probably hurt your back, but I don’t see why you shouldn’t do something you love just because of a condition.

The doctor takes an x-ray and then they measure the degrees based off of that.

I personally don’t do anything for my back pain, I just live with it so unfortunately that’s the only thing I can really say, sorry.

Does anyone know of any other pain relievers?

I'm getting a SpineCor brace next week and I was just wondering if you have any extra information, tips or reviews or things like that about it :)?

Hi! I’ve heard that the SpineCor brace is really comfortable. My old chiropractor wanted me to get it, but with the severity of my curves, it wouldn’t work and it was really expensive. Somebody on this site told me that they believe it saved them from surgery, so let’s hope it’s the same way for you! Good luck! :) -Emily

hi I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm making part of my blog about scoliosis. It makes me feel truly awful, and I can't really deal with it anymore. Help?

That is honestly the most horrible thing I have ever heard. Harassing somebody for something they can’t control is the worst. It’s happened to me before, but not that badly. Please, stay strong for me, okay?

Since you obviously can’t ignore it anymore, I think that you should take action. Flip out on them if you have to. Actually explain to them what scoliosis is and how it’s affected you. Please don’t let it go to your head.
